Careers and Work Related Education

 Introduction

We work closely with Careers Wales and have developed an innovative programme that supports pupils on their journey from Year 7 - 13, developing skills and becoming aware of opportunities for their own future careers.

A number of school staff are involved in careers guidance led by one of our Assistant Headteachers, Mr Chris Davies. The School team works in close cooperation with our careers advisor, Miss Nerys Howell who is based at the School and assists in providing an extensive programme of Careers Education. In addition, the Advisors are available to interview pupils on an individual basis wherever this is appropriate.

The school has recently developed an innovative Careers programme for Year 10 in which pupils are matched with local businesses to undertake problem-solving projects. This has been very successful and has seen pupils involved in design, marketing and production in a wide range of organisations and supporting people in public services.

In addition the school has regular visits from local businesses as part of the Big Ideas Wales initiative that provide exposure for pupils to a wide range of industries and enterprise skills. This culminates in the annual visit to the Carmarthenshire careers fair which all pupils in Year 10 are encouraged to attend.

The school has been accredited with the National Careers Mark.
