Educational Visits

Introduction

The school has a proud history of organising and running educational visits to enrich learning and provide opportunities for students to have experiences they may not otherwise have.

We believe that educational visits have an important role to play in developing confidence, raising aspiration and nurturing a love of learning in pupils and that these should be available to all students.

We organise over 100 educational visits every year, over a wide range of areas.

  • Local trips to university campuses, visits to local employers, field trips, sports events, competitions and subject-related academic trips. These make up the majority of the trips we take and many of these experiences cost very little.
  • UK based residential visits for sports, competitions and to visit landmarks in Wales and the rest of the UK. These have included in recent years, the annual sevens tournaments in Warwick and Roslyn Park, trips to London to visit Hampton Court, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and geology field trips to Dorset and Pembrokeshire.
  • International (overseas) trips designed to provide experiences and opportunities that take pupils beyond their classroom learning and provide them with memories that will last a lifetime. As well as the annual senior and junior ski trips, pupils have had the chance to visit places such as Paris, Rome, Poland, Iceland, Morocco and the USA over recent years.

Managing Educational Visits

We have robust procedures in place for managing school educational visits that can be seen in our educational visits policy. These are supported by risk assessment and management through our own procedures that align with Carmarthenshire County Council EVOLVE-Edufocus System.

Our educational visits policy outlines ratios of staff to students and staff conduct on school visits as well as our risk management and approval processes.

Consent and Payment

All of our educational visits are handled through the ParentPay system (click here for more information), we use ParentPay to collect consent and important information regarding medical needs and allergies.

Payment for educational visits should also be made through ParentPay. Normally payments can be made in multiple instalments and spread out from the date of the announcement of the trip until the date of the trip itself. For some of our more expensive visits we use licenced and experienced tour operators. These operators will have their own payment schedules and in these instances we are tied to these.

Please note that once a trip has been booked, this indicates a commitment to attend the trip. Failure to do so (or withdrawal) may mean that payments are lost if this money has already been passed on to the tour operators.

All our educational visits and trips are aimed at pupils who have demonstrated excellent behaviour. Trip leaders will consult with Heads of Year prior to a trip as to whether pupils are suitable for that trip. We reserve the right to withdraw pupils where we have concerns regarding their suitability for any particular opportunity.
